Artists Dale Roberts

Dale Roberts, born in Newfoundland, is a sculptor and mixed media artist currently living and working in British Columbia. Dale Roberts received his BFA in sculpture at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1992 and an MFA in Sculpture at the State University of New York in 1995.
As a sculptor of stone and fibre, Dale uses his maritime roots as a source of inspiration in the forms that he creates. In 1996 he began crocheting as a means of making 3-dimensional forms. The materials are from the familiar territory of the seafarer and the homemaker, i.e., materials including tarred hemp, burlap, fishing twine, crochet cotton, and tools such as the netting needle, corking spool, crochet and rug hooks.
An art college teacher and mentor to young artists, Dale has also taken on the role of curator and hosts the biennial “Mailmania” art event.
Dales live and works in Victoria, BC.
