My Mother’s Smile
Cheli Nighttraveller
A performance by Cheli Nighttraveler that will be presented as the closing event for Nadia Myre's Indian Act.
Cheli Nighttraveller (Cree/Saulteaux/Caucasian) is a multidisciplinary artist born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, raised in the United States and mentored in the late ‘90s by a group of Aboriginal artists through her affiliation with TRIBE inc. Beginning her professional career with video, she soon delved into performance art, and has since been invited to participate in festivals, shows, and conferences across the country. Her work explores themes of identity, storytelling, trauma and memory – tools she employs in her attempts to make sense of cultural and personal spaces for herself and her audience. Recently returning her focus to screen-based work, Cheli is currently studying film animation at Concordia University in Montreal.
