The Mattering Map Project
No description available
The Mattering Map Project celebrates the diners and the people of Mount Pleasant. Many of these diners are housed in unique wooden buildings. Originally they were homes in which the first floor was the diner and the cooks lived upstairs. A diner is the place where the locals will tell you stories; where artists, single moms and families eat, hang out and drink coffee. Once the workers in these diners were shipbuilders, now they are people doing media post-production work. Soon the rent will become all but unaffordable. For the Mattering Map Project, the staff of each diner will be given a camera and asked to document what they consider important to their diner. I have gathered oral stories of the community on audio tape-stories of the people that work and eat at these diners. These stories will accompany the photos from the diner's staff and patrons.
