grunt's collaborations with First Nations performance artists has continued for almost 20 years. In the fall of 2006, three emerging Aboriginal artists joined forces in a cabaret called Poor Life of Dismay. Roger Crait, joining us from Winnipeg, and Vancouverite Skeena Reece stimulated emotions and thoughts through live performance and spoken word. Jackson 2Bears complemented the performance with his mix of music and images.

This performance deals with first memory, the first realization of individuality. The cycles, patterns, rhythms and eddies that resonate in the course of a life from that first drop into a consciousness of self. The piece has a duration of about 45 minutes, 25 minutes of action and a 20 minute epilogue, which the audience may or may not be aware of. The music, actions and lighting all relate the artist's family history (for full overview see attached performance description below).

Recollective: Vancouver Independent Archives Week 2018 takes place from November 2 – 13, 2018 as a series of free public events, panels, conversations, and screenings that highlight artist-run centre archives, artists working with archives, and the intersections between contemporary art practices and social movements in Vancouver. The program significantly expands on the work begun through previous archival projects: Activating the Archive and Vancouver Independent Archives Week. Taking the focus and format of these events as a starting point, Recollective broadens the context, understanding, and awareness of independent archives by exploring what is at stake when artists and arts organizations confront the tasks of arranging, describing, preserving, and providing access to material history. In 2018, Recollective features perspectives and approaches to archival practice through grassroots strategies, collective organizing, hybrid models, DIY spaces, open source solutions, and counter- archives that facilitate ownership of community memory by and for community. This series of events will emphasize the reciprocal influence between contemporary culture and social movements by drawing attention to shared experiences and struggles across diverse communities.

"I wanted to break through an unrealistic theatrical convention garrulity. The most important 'action' of my characters is their silence... Their problems lie so far back and are so advanced that they are no longer able to express them in words." - Franz Xaver Kroetz. Request Concert is about the role of order in a woman's life. It deals with loneliness and non-commmunication. She has no words to convey the desperateness of her situation. Huachiman Theatre has been working in Vancouver for the last five years. This production starts Morgan McGuigan and is directed by Glenn Alteen.
