"Each person and every object has its angel, which is simply its spirit or essence" With this in mind, grunt has received a vast cross-section of interpretations of angels and their meanings. As angels are messengers between the sprititual and earthly realms so are artists the mediators between the ideal and the real. The nature of the submissions will be as varied and mysterious as the nature of angels themselves.

Trace elements is an exhibition of 14 artists currently working in assemblage in Vancouver. The past several years have seen a resurgence of collage/assemblage as a medium for artwork in this city. This form is one of the most popular art forms of this century. From early work by Duchamp and Schwitters to the collages of Motherwell, the combine paintings of Rauschenberg, the intricate boxes of Cornell collage/assemblage has been an important tool artists use to reflect the modern world. In Vancouver today a large group of artists involved work solely in this form and an overview of the wide range this work encompasses will be the focus of the exhibition. Hosted by the Pitt International Gallery.

Lunar Suede is another of an increasingly visual group of artists who make use of 'found objects' in their work. Lunar is from Courtenay on Vancouver Island and along with Ken KRAK Gerberick and MANDAD, these artists have worked out the "Pigeon Lake Mall" (Cumberland dump) to create a body of work that is at once visually exciting, humourous and contains a great deal of social and political relevance. Lunar was originally a carver but his tie up with MANDAD and KRAK changed all that. Most of the work is assemblage pieced together with an eye for both painting and sculpture. Its use of other people's garbage provides fascinating visual pieces taken out of context and an interesting commentary on how we live in the consumer society.
